Being a reader and blogger you read a lot of books most of
the good, some of them bad but there are the ones the stay with you. They pull
you in, keep you hooked and wanting more. Christina George did just that with The
Publicist and Shelf Life, the first two books in The Publicist series.
The Publicist:
The First book we meet Kate Mitchell a women who wants to
change the world of publishing, but can she? She works as a publicist at a
large respected publishing house, but she is at mercy of a broken system where
books don’t sell and authors with bigger egos then New York itself. Kate is barely
making it all day with wanting to throw her phone out the window but in walks
star editor MacDermott Ellis: Tall, Sexy, charming married and ready to save
the day if he needs too. She also has Allan Lavigne, a long forgotten bestseller
and his nephew Nick: Hot, sweet and Single, ready to sweep Kate off her feet.
Kate is trying to make a name for herself in the crazy world
this is working in, but with sandal around ever turn and two men wanting her. Will
Kate be a sandal herself?
I knew from the moment I started to read this that I would
love Kate and it did. She is strong willed and knows what she wants most of the
time. I wanted to hate Mac so much, but I felt sorry for him after read what
happen to his marriages. Yes his dose many questionable things but he has his
own reasons for doing what he does. Nick on the other hand was easy for me to
hate and I can’t tell you don’t like him. I like how Kate and Mac relationship
starts over time and not right off the bat and Mac tells he from the beginning
what he wants and how it would work. It was slow at times, but it still kept
you reading.
Christina shows you the world of publishing like you never
seen it before and it’s funny, sexy and keeps you guessing. Her writing is spot
on and clever with an edge of wittiness. It just leaves you wanting more. 4 stars!
Shelf Line:
This one is just as good as the first one, maybe even
better.
Kate world is breaking around her, one of her star authors
is being carted away in handcuffs and that’s just the beginning of Kate’s
troubles. After she ends her career and the love affair with “the love of her
life” she starts over in California. Nick is all too helpful to help Kate start
over on more ways than one. He wants her heart and to help her follow her
dreams, but can he really make she forget that her heart is with someone else?
Kate starts to rebuild her life and find that someone helps
her with a surprising gift that she can’t forget. After hard work her name is a
household name and the biggest bestseller in ages. She welcomed back with open
arms, but can she welcome back “the one” with open arms? Who has her heart?
I love this book, but it was slow of me to get into after
reading the first one. I wanted to know what happen with Kate and Mac but I was
afraid that I wouldn’t be happy with it. At time I wanted to kick Kate but she
end up making the right choice. Kate was just as feisty, high achiever that she
was in the first book. What Mac did in this book only made me love him even
more, he changes his past, mends who he has hurt and is fighting for the only women
who made him want more. I started to like Nick but then he gone and did want he
did to Kate in the end.
Christina wrote a great follow up that was well written, plot
filled with many twisted and turns that will keep you guessing and happy. The characters
are convincing with complex personalities that you fall in love with. I love
Andrew and his man, so funny and true friends to Kate. As much as I can’t wait
for the next book in the series, I don’t want Kate and Mac not to be together. 4 Stars.
Both books are mush reads, if you haven’t read them…What are
you waiting for?
Author's Bio:
Christina George has worked in publishing
for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn't. It’s not a
slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam
against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not
autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know
which ones, cause it’s more fun to guess, right? George continues to
work in publicity and helps authors because at the end of the day she
does love books, she loves publishing, and she loves authors. She hopes
you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as she enjoyed
creating it.
